Post #7: Springtime With Cherry Blossoms
- If this were an actual field trip I would give you this advice: Be prepared for lots of walking and dress comfortably. Make sure you do not wear a belt or shoes with large buckles. Do not pack a lunch for the day. Why?
- I believe that we should not wear belts or shoes with buckles because there are lots of metal/body detectors in almost every building, so taking off belts and shoes will be a hassle. I think that packing lunch is a bad idea because I highly doubt that the security would allow food in museums and such because it might stain if a person drops it.
- Who are the senators for your state?
- Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer are the senators.
- Who is the representative for your district?
- Jim Beall is my representative.
- If you were to meet them where would you find them and how would you set up that appointment?
- I would probably find them on their website and email or call them for an appointment.
- What types of security will you need to be prepared for? Why?
- I think I should be prepared for a metal/body detector to see if I have any weapon that could harm them.
- What question would you ask your senator or representative? Why?
- I would ask the senator/representative what they do on a daily basis as their occupation because I honestly have no clue.
Post #6: The United States Capital Building
Napoleon I:
Why~ I believe that they chose Napoleon because he appointed a commission to draw up the Code Civil (a combination of tradition and Roman law).
What~ This tells me that America has many influences that helped develop our nation.
Moses:
Why~ I believe they chose Moses because he was a prophet.
What~ This tells me that America has many influences that helped develop our nation.
Thomas Jefferson:
Why~ I believe they chose Thomas because he wrote the Declaration of Independence.
What~ This tells me that America has many influences that helped develop our nation.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Statue of Liberty:
I chose the Statue of Liberty because she represents freedom and liberty.
The Twin Towers:
I also chose the twin towers because ever since the 9/11 tragedy occurred, we as a nation, have been getting stronger to defend from anything bad coming to hurt our country.
The Capital Building:
Last, I chose the Capital because it is the meeting place for our country's representatives. This symbolizes that we can work together and try to create a better future for our nation.

Post #5: An Overview of Several Monuments
Arlington National Cemetery:
Who: Veterans from everyone of our nation's wars are buried here.
When: These wars included the American Revolution, Civil War, and military actions from Afghanistan and Iraq. It was established on May 13, 1864.
Where: It is located in Arlington County, Virginia.
How: I felt really touched because I love everything about the army. They do everything in their will power to help our country and having a beautiful cemetery like this can help them rest in peace.
What: I am grateful for being in a country that cares for its people.
Ford's Theater:
Who: John T. Church bought this building as a church and then revamped it to become a theater.
When: It was made in 1833.
Where: It is located on 511 10th NW, Washington D.C. 20004.
How: I felt fascinated by the interior designs because it is very hard to find theaters like this that don't look as modern as most theaters.
What: It felt chilling to know that President Lincoln was shot in this theater because it was packed and the theater is quite small for somebody to be shooting people.
Washington Monument:
Who: This monument was designed by Robert Mills dedicating it to the first president, George Washington.
When: The construction of this monument began in 1848 and ended in 1884.
Where: It is in the National Mall of Washington D.C.
How: I was astonished by how tall the monument was. I understand now why it took a long time to create.
What: I found it very cool that people could go to the very top of the monument and see the best view of Washington D.C.

Post #4:The Supreme Law of The Land
How the Supreme Court Works:
1st: Every year, the U.S. Supreme Court receives thousands of petitions from lower courts to review appeals of certain cases. These applications are called petitions for writs of certiorari, and when SCOTUS decides to take a case it is commonly known as granting certiorari.
2nd: After the U.S. Supreme Court hears a case, the nine Justices take an initial vote on what to do with the case. After the votes are tallied, the senior Justice in the majority assigns the task of writing the majority opinion. That task can fall on another Justice in the majority, or on the assigning Justice himself (or herself).
Principle and Functions In Buildings:
Equality Under the Law- This is engraved on the west plaza of the building.
Establishment of Justice- There are columns that have Lady Justice who defends the innocent.
Separation of Powers- There are engravings in the courtroom that have two powers sitting side by side.
Checks & Balances- There is Divine Inspiration who holds a scale in her hand.
Architecture and Art of Buildings:
1. I chose the North Fountain because I really love water, so any place with water will be good for me! Not only that, it also looks very attractive and a nice touch to the whole building.
2. I also like the picture from the Third Game of the Yankees-Cubs World Series because I really love seeing old pictures from the past and all the amazing people that were alive back then. I wish I was in the era sometimes because it seemed so fun.
3. Lastly, I chose the picture of Michael Jordan because I used to watch him when I was little and admire how good of a person and player he was.

- The Declaration of Independence looks like a yellow sheet of paper.
- The Declaration of Independence is in the National Archives.
- The Declaration of Independence is important because it declared its independence from Britain. It basically helped establish the country of America and didn't want a king to rule the nation.
- I found it by searching on Google.
- The workers at the National Archives help preserve the document.
- The document represents freedom to our nation.
- The Constitution looks very similar to the Declaration of Independence for being very yellow.
- The Constitution is also located in the National Archives.
- The Constitution is important because it states all the rights a citizen has.
- I found it by searching on Google.
- The workers at the National Archives preserve the document.
- This document represents one's rights to the nation.
Justin Sam Student of EVHS 3300 Quimby Road San Jose, CA 95148 December 16, 2013 Zoe Lofgren District Office 635 North 1st Street, Suite B San Jose, CA 95112 Dear Miss Lofgren: Recently, I have been desiring to go to the white house. I consider my high school days as a perfect time to go since I am already in a government class. I feel that every American should go at least once in their lifetime. I really wanted to visit because I want to see the architecture of the building built centuries ago. Being in the oval office would be a plus as well because seeing it in movies is extremely tempting. Also, seeing everyone in the house working would be fascinating because I am very curious on how busy it is. If I get the opportunity to go to the white house, I will feel more involved with my nation than ever before. I can realize what I have been missing and how our government deals with situations on a daily basis. Sincerely, Justin Sam ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The most interesting feature about the white house was the long hallway. I find that very intriguing because I feel like it is the size of 3 hallways! I think the founding fathers made an extremely convenient and big house for the presidents because there will be a lot of people in the house working and there should be a wide area for everyone to walk without bumping into each other. |
